Ghana’s Para Power lifter Charles Narh Teye has become the first para athlete to qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games in September, Starr Sports can confirm.
Narh will be making his second appearance at the multi sports event after competing at the London 2012 Olympics.
Teye through his personal struggles and some financial support from individuals travelled to the UAE for the championship which led to his qualification.
“I am very happy I have qualified to this big event once again. My disappointment is I did everything by myself without government support but I have qualified under the flag of Ghana. I now expect government to support me in preparation ahead of the games in September”, he told Starr Sports.
This means Ghana’s Paralympics team has just one athlete qualifying.
