Agbeko back in town, to a rousing welcome

By Prince Dornu-Leiku

Joseph Agbeko has returned home to Accra barely a week after losing his IBF Bnatammweight title to Mexican Abner Mares in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Despite not returning with the IBF Bantamweight belt he left town with, the 31 year old was met on arrival at the Kotoko International Airport by a huge crowd singing his praise songs amid a rousing welcome in Accra. Not even the four hour delay of his flight could dissuade the fans from showing their respects to the man they still regard as the true champion.

A tired Agbeko expressed his appreciation to Ghanaians for their continued support but explained that he will open up and say more when he meets journalists at a press conference scheduled for the plush Golden Tulip Hotel in the centre of Accra on Monday afternoon.

Agbeko lost his IBF title and the Don King fashioned Bantamweight tournament final to Abner Mares n controversial circumstances following referee Russell Mora’s failure to deduct points nor warn Mares for a flurry of low blows. The IBF have, upon examining videos, since ordered for a rematch by December 14.
