Ghanaian Boxer Mohammed Akrong is so grateful for all the support and career push he has received from promotional outfit Box Office Sports so much that he is promising to win his next fight scheduled for the Barona Areena, Espoo, Finland on March 31 by a knock-out just to show his appreciation.
Ghanaian syndicate Box Office Sports earned Akrong (16-4, 13 KOs) his first professional fight outside Africa last September when he lost a bid for the Interim WBC Latino Middleweight belt in Mexico against former multiple world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio.
The 29 year old Ghanaian boxer took the defeat in his stride and came back to work even harder and after notching knockout wins in his last three fights, all in Ghana, Box Office Sports have responded again to earn him a date against unbeaten Finnish boxer Niko Jokinen (16-0, 6 KOs). Akrong says its payback time for Box office Sports for the massive confidence they have reposed in him.
“I am really grateful to (Box Office CEO) Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, Solomon Otoo and everybody at Box Office Sports. I thank them so much for giving me the hope that I can still make it and become world champion. I promise to win the fight in Finland by knock-out just to show them how determined I am not to let them down,” Akrong has exclusively told Ghana based website www.sportsinghana.com.
The boxer who will be accompanied on the trip to Finland by his Manager Abdul Ramany Iddrissu and trainer Emmanuel Kwei Mensah, also explains that the loss in Mexico was as a result of ill-preparation. He’s therefore urging his fans to remember him in their prayers as he starts the journey to world title glory.
He told www.sportsinghana.com: “I don’t like to make excuses but I lost that fight in Mexico because I took the fight at a very short notice and it affected my performance.
“But it was a useful lesson for me and I have trained very well for this upcoming fight and I will continue to prepare well. I want Ghanaians to pray for me and I will be okay.”
