Ghana is set to witness another feast of boxing when Ghana’s Richard Commey (24-2, 22 KOs) take on Belgium based Tunisian, Hedi Slimani (26-2, 14 KOs) for the WBC international lightweight championship at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The night dubbed the ‘Freedom Fight Night will also see Ghana’s commonwealth champion Duke Micah (19-0, 17 KOs) rumble with Mexican Jonathan Aguilar (17-4, 15 KOs) for the WBC international Bantamweight belt. Meanwhile, Fredrick Lawson (24-1, 20 KOs) face Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings (19-2, 14 KOs) for the WBC international silver welterweight title.
At the weigh in session held at the new Boxing Arena on Friday, Duke Micah weighed 52.5 kg whilst his opponent Johnathan Aguilar weighed 53 kg for the WBC International Bantamweight championship. For the WBC international silver welterweight challenge Sakima Mullings weighed 66.3 kg whilst his Ghanaian opponent Fredrick Lawson came below at 66 kg.
There was a little bit of drama in the WBC international lightweight championship, because both boxers could not make the cut, Richard Commey weighed 136.6 pounds whilst Hedi Slimani weighed 135.5 pounds. The pair were given enough time to lessen their weights and later made 134.4 pounds respectively.
The fight which is part of the year-long celebration of Ghana’s 60th Independence anniversary will be attended by His Excellency the President of Ghana Nana Akufo - Addo, former President Jerry John Rawlings and other people from the diplomatic corps.
