Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - Ben Ankrah known in boxing circles as "Congo Soldier" will on December 17, mount the ring to take on Bilal "Take Punch" Mohamed for the vacant National and West Africa Lightweight title at the Accra Ohene Djan Sports Stadium.
The title, which was formally held by Raymond Narh was declared vacant by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) last week following the failure of Narh to defend it within the stipulated six months period as required under the GBA regulations.
This has therefore paved the way for the two boxers to vie for the vacant title under the auspices of Ambitions Boxing Promotions syndicate.
The fight, which is the main bout for the night is expected to give boxing fans their money's worth as both boxers boast of impressive fight records though Ankrah seem to be slightly ahead of Bilal.
Aside the records, Ankrah's popularity in the arena which saw him defeat Africa Boxing Union, (ABU) Super Featherweight champion, Kpakpo Allotey in 2003 to win the National and West Africa Super Featherweight title will be his strongest weapon as he comes up against the enterprising Bilal.
Bilal on the other hand seem to be hungrier for success and has indicated his desire to upset the Congo Soldier. Other boxers' on the bill are Osmanu Akaba, the Commonwealth Featherweight champion who will engage Imurana Bozo in a ten round contest.
Osmanu Yahaya, also known as "Osie Duran", the Commonwealth Welter and Super Welterweight champion will use a ten round contest to step up his preparations for the defence of his title early next year.
Yahaya who has brushed aside the challenge put up by Osmanu Adama for his title will contest Wahab Adebisi in the Super Welterweight category. Thomas Awimbono, a member of the 2003 Black Bombers squad who turned professional this year has been paired with Aryee Aryetey in another ten round Super Welterweight contest.
A member of the boxing syndicate told the GNA Sports that plans are in place to add two more fights on the bill, which is aimed at presenting boxing fans with their exciting end of year Christmas boxing package and bonanza.
Alhaji Taufik told the GNA sports that he is expecting a keen contest on the night since most of the boxers are very competent and capable of providing fans their moneys' worth.
