Awinbono fails to win Commonwealth title

Welshman Bradley Pryce retained his Commonwealth light-middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Ghana's Thomas Awinbono in Cardiff on Saturday.

Pryce took the fight 120-109, 117-111, 118-111 and now wants reigning domestic champion Jamie Moore later this year.

"I want to make the most of this win by getting in with Moore for the British title," said Pryce.

Also on the bill, former British welterweight champion Michael Jennings had a unanimous decision over Takaloo.

Jennings, stunned by a controversial points loss to Young Muttley last year, got 117-111, 115-114 and 115-113 verdicts against Margate-based Iranian Takaloo.

The victory earned Jennings the lightly-regarded WBU welterweight title but more importantly put him back at the top of the domestic ratings.

"I went into this fight knowing it was one I had to win otherwise I would have had nowhere to go, and I am really pleased with that performance," said Jennings.

"My trainer Brian Hughes told me to forget about the loss and prove I belonged at the top level. I didn't think I lost the fight anyway and tonight I proved I belong with the best."
