*After defeating Mohammed Akrong to claim Ghana’s national Middleweight title, Aryee Ayittey AKA the Volcano has expressed the desire to fight bigger and tougher opponents from outside the country. Ayittey has confidently stated that he has all it takes to reach the highest heights in his boxing career should he get the needed push. *
“This was just a little show of what I can do, there is a lot more I can do and all I am asking is for the promoters to find me foreign opponents because I am ready for the world. I also want to take the name of Ghana high and all I ask for is support,” Ayittey told SportsInGhana.com moments after securing a unanimous decision victory in the main event of the Independence Day Sayoo boxing extravaganza.
118-112, 117-113 and 115-113 the three judges scored the 12-round bout, all in favour of the Volcano on the bill put together by Alhaji Nurudeen Tofiq’s Ambition Boxing promotions and Commonwealth Sports Awards at the Salenko Beach Resort in the heart of Accra.
A precursor to the nation’s 54th Independence Day celebrations, Ambition Boxing Promotions and Commonwealth Sports Awards also used the occasion to reward various personalities who have helped the syndicate in diverse ways over the years. Some of the recipients included Theo Armah of Obonu FM, George Lartey of GTV, Andrew Nortey of Ghanaian Times, Andy Quao of Graphic, Naa Darkwah Dodoo of Great FM and Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Communications Director Mohammed Amin Lartey also of Metro TV. Other prize recipients include GBA President Samir Captan, his Vice Ahene Truly, ring mounting specialist Napoleon Tagoe, Dr. Quaye, coach Daniel Lartekwei Lartey, former female boxer Ameley Tyson and the only current female boxer in the country Yakor Chavez.
In other bouts on the night, former Black Bomber Frederick Lawson, making his professional debut, scored a 4th round knock-out win over Nii Akrofi in a Welterweight contest. Isaac Awuley Aryee stopped Steve Emu in round one of their Super Lightweight championship with Raphael Mensah earning a 3rd round TKO over Emmanuel Quaye in their Super Featherweight clash.
Samuel Kotey Neequaye was also a winner after securing a round 3 TKO against William Kommey in their lightweight clash as Adikor Insul also beat George Persie courtesy a round 5 TKO of their Lightweight contest. *
