Barnor reigns supreme over Nortey

Accra, June 6, GNA - Joshua Barnor of Panix Gym emerged victorious at the 10th week Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) league which came off at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonments in Accra on Friday. Barnor defeated Jackson Nortey of Bronx Gym in a featherweight contest with a split decision in the most attractive pairing of the night to maintain his unbeaten record. Barnor who was well composed, took charge of the contest from the onset as he landed combined left and right punches at Nortey and never looked back.

The Panix Gym lad held onto his lead and further boosted his scores by cornering his opponent often, accompanied by some heavy punches. Nortey came back strongly in the fourth and final round to give Barnor a good run for his money, but it was very little to tilt the contest in his favour.

In the other featherweight bouts, Enoch Adjei of Fit Square overpowered George Krampah of Fit Square also with a split decision while, Isaac Sackey proved too hot for Bright Ayala of Wisdom Gym. Sackey was declared winner by unanimous decision. In the lightweight division, Richard Amefu boosted the points build up of Sparta gym, by a majority win over Emmanuel Abu of Believers Gym while Francis Aryee of Attoh Quarshie stopped Samuel Akurugu of Wisdom in the third round.

In the middleweight, Bismark Channy of Ultimate Gym disposed off Sampson Dzaku of Akotoku Gym with a unanimous decision just as Giblim Ahmed of Wisdom dispatched off Emmanuel Martey of Square Deal in a similar manner.

Wisdom Gym's Habib Ahmed was awarded a controversial split decision win over Ebenezer Sowah of Attoh Quarshie in the welterweight division while Emmanuel Zatey of Fit Square had a unanimous decision over Abraham Afful of Ashaiman Gym in the same division.
