Ghana’s amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, is in Benin and expected to begin their training tour on November 30.
The 10-day tour which is being organized by the French government will see Ghana competing against Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria among others.
The Black Bombers who were unable to compete in the 2016 RIO qualifier in Qatar are expected to participate in the World Series of boxing in Cameroon in May.
President of the Ghana Black Bombers Association Gideon Quartey explains the motive of the training tour.
“It is a very good platform to prepare the team ahead of Brazil 2016 since we didn’t get opportunities to participate in competitions. After this we just have less than three months to start the qualifiers. After the qualifiers the team will get the opportunity to train with the French national team,” he told Starr Sports.
The 12 boxers, three coaches, two referee judges and a technical director are expected to be in Ghana on December 5.
