A 12-member squad of the Black Bombers left Accra last Sunday for the Republic of Benin to participate in the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship in Cotonou.
The boxers are Joseph Martey (light flyweight), Lantey Hiroshima Addy (flyweight), Bastis (bantamweight), Yakubu Amidu (featherweight) Thomas Aryeetey (lightweight), Emmanuel Lartei Lartey (light welterweight) and Samuel Cudjoe (welterweight).
The rest are Thomas Awimbono (light middleweight), Ernest Amuzu (middleweight), Issah Akrong (light heavyweight), Paa Kwesi (heavyweight) and Haruna Osumanu (Super heavyweight).
According to the Chairman of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), Mr Eddie Duplan, who revealed this to the Graphic, five out of the 12 boxers were in Manchester for the recent Commonwealth Games.
He, therefore, expected the Bombers to exhibit a good stuff in the ongoing championship.
He also hinted that three members of the commonwealth team who could have made the trip to Benin are on the sick list.
Mr Duplan disclosed that the event began yesterday and is scheduled to end on Sunday. In all, five out of eight countries are taking part. They are Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso, Liberia and the host nation.
Nigeria, who were also expected to take part, had not confirmed their participation at the time of going to press yesterday.
