President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation, Mr. Gideon Quartey, believes the Black Bombers have gained valuable experience from their 3-day preparatory tournament in Benin.
According to him, the tournament which featured Benin and Gabon is expected to give Ghanaian boxers the needed exposure as they head into the Rio 2016 qualifiers in Cameroon in the second week of March.
Four out of Ghana’s six boxers at the competition emerged victorious in the various contests in which they were engaged.
“The tournament was quite successful largely because it’s been a while since they were involved in an international competition’’, Mr Quartey told Citi FM in Accra, adding that, “The boys gave a good account of themselves and they came back with good wins against the other competing nations.
“This is important because quite a number of the fighters they faced will also be in the qualifying tournament.
“It gives us a good idea of their level of performance going into the qualifiers,”, he added.
