Boxing association seek financial assistance

Cape Coast, June 8, GNA - The Central Region Boxing Association on Monday appealed to co-operate bodies and individuals to assist in the completion of its offices at Cape Coast.

Mr Twento Walker, Chairman of the association who made the appeal in an interview with the GNA Sports at Cape Coast said the 90 million cedis project, comprising three rooms and a gymnasium was initiated and funded by the association and is nearing completion.

He said so far, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has contributed 30 million cedis, Cape Coast Municipal Assembly, five million cedis while some individuals have also contributed token sums towards the project. Mr Walker said the project, which was started early last year in January and expected to be completed in September, has come to a standstill due to lack of adequate funds.

He said the association has inaugurated three of its branches at Mankessim, Kasoa and Cape Coast in a bid to rekindle people's interest in boxing and to sustain it.

The Chairman said the association has plans to open its branches in all the 12 Districts of the region to unearth talents to compete on league basis.
