Boxing tournament ends in a technical draw

Cape Coast, April 25, GNA - The Bantamweight professional boxing tournament between Nana Benya Bee of Cape Coast and Samuel Addoteye of Accra was declared a technical draw at Cape Coast on Saturday. The sole referee judge, Shadrack Acquaye ended the fight mid way in the fifth round when Benya Bee sustained a deep cut on his forehead when he crashed with his opponent.

Sole referee judge Acquaye had to declare the fight a technical draw because at the time of the incident each boxer had scored 39 points each.

He said the incident happened when both boxers dodged below the belt level and crashed.

The tournament, promoted by Walker-King Promotions also featured an amateur boxing competition between Cape Coast and Accra in which Accra won by 3 bouts to one.

In the first bout of the featherweight division, Randy Lartey of Accra beat Frank Zoya by a unanimous decision while Solomon Nkrumah of Cape Coast also beat Odarlai Lartey of Accra 2-1 in the lightweight division.

Isaac Sam of Accra stopped Emmanuel Halm of Cape Coast in the third round of their lightweight division contest while Baba Iddrisu of Accra had a walkover over Tule Ade of Cape Coast in the welterweight division. The tournament was also sponsored by a number of organisations such as Saana Lodge, Messia Enterprise and Vec Rest House of Cape Coast. Among the personalities present was veteran Sam Akromah, former African Super featherweight champion.
