The stage is now set for Bukom Banku to challenge WBO light heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly in November this year, after the Ghanaian won his last bout in the early hours of Sunday morning. Banku overcame a stubborn Vikapita Meroro retain his WBO Africa light heavyweight at the Accra international Conference Centre.
With this win Banku has improved his fight record to 22 wins and no loss is already looking forward to the big fight.
In other bouts Joshua Okine become the new IBF intercontinental welterweight after South Africa’s Sikulule Sidzumo was disqualified for hitting him below the belt four times.
Emmanuel Tagoe also annexed the IBF intercontinental super featherweight title after defeating Chilean, Oscar Bravo unanimously. Welterweight Patrcik Allotey and lightweight Sam Amoako both won their bouts against Nigerian opponents. Former national amateur boxer Frederick Lawson also defeated Kofi Manu to record his fifth professional bout.
