Commey receives heroic welcome

Hundreds of supporters on Monday, September 12 thronged the Kotoka International Airport to welcome Ghanaian boxer Richard Commey back home from the USA despite the boxer’s defeat to Robert Easter Jnr in their IBF world lightweight championship bout.

The defeat to Easter Jr on the night of Friday, September 9 was Commey’s first professional loss.

Despite losing out on becoming a world champion, Commey was received at the airport by a large crowd and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, who promised to support the boxer to attain his dreams of becoming a world champion.

Commey lost in a split decision after travelling the full 12 rounds. His record now stands at (24-1, 22 KO).
