Accra, April 22, GNA - A dramatic incident unfolded at the Prisons Canteen last Friday during the week eight of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) League when a trainer entered the ring in his quest to save his ward from further punisment.
The trainer of Will Power Gym, whose name was given as Lee Moore brushed aside the rules of the game, entered the ring during the third round of the middleweight contest between his ward, Lartei Lartey and Charles Stella of Attoh Quarshie Gym.
The action of Moore, which the ring officials described as contrary to the regulations forced them to end the bout abruptly in favour of Stella after 1 mins 33 secs of the third round.
The boxer challenged his trainer for his action and the argument nearly degenerated into a fight between the trainer and his ward. Moore insisted that he did it to save his ward, who he said, had been turned into a punching bag by his opponent.
According to him, the absence of a towel in their corner compelled him into the ring in his quest to save the life of his boxer. Lartei argued that he wasn't a punching bag, as his trainer had stated, adding that he was matching his opponent punch for punch. The young boxer said Moore could have at least hinted him of such an action rather than conducting himself unprofessionally. In the other bouts of the same division, Fuseini Yalo of De-Oak's Gym outclassed Michael Sackey of Liase Gym while, Black Panthers' Emmanuel Tagoe defeated Moses Lartey of Will Power Gym.
