Fit Square Gym dominates GAABA Individual Championship

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA - Products of Fit Square Gym emerged the dominant force during the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) Individual Championship.

The two-day event, which ended on Friday, October 23 at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonment saw the Dansoman-based boxing gym picking honours in three of the six weight categories.

New kid on the bloc, Samuel Dodoo, Emmanuel Adjei and Henry Quarcopome were the victors in the Light Welterweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions respectively. Dodoo defeated Eric Botwe via a majority decision in an all-Fit Square Gym affair, Adjei also accounted for Abdul Ali of the Bridge Boxing Gym whilst Quarcopome defeated Ebenzer Tetteh of Sonia Gym, both also via majority decisions.

In the Lightweight division, Emmanuel Bawowe defeated Anani Kutsoke 3- 1 in an all Reformers Gym affair whilst Arday Aryee completed a double for the Reformers after he pummelled Bernard Attoh of Fit Square 10-1 in the Welterweight division.

Daniel Lartey ensured Akotoku Academy had a smile by out boxing Sena Agbeko of Bridge Boxing Gym 7-0 in the Middleweight category. Medals and cash prizes were presented to winners as well as runners-up in the various categories.

Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAABA told GNA Sports that the event which drew participation from several boxing gyms within the Greater Accra Region was aimed at selecting a formidable team to represent the Region for an impending international assignment early next year. The GAABA team is expected to line-up against the United Kingdom-based Haringey Community Boxing Club early next year in an International Championship next February in London.
