GAABA/JAB fight-night; weigh in on Friday morning

Accra, July 14, GNA - The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) team and their Nigerian opponents, the Joint Amateur Boxing (JAB) Team will weigh-in on Friday morning at Chicken 'N' Likin Restaurant on the Osu Labadi Road. The weigh-in will take place immediately after a scheduled press conference at the same venue by GAABA to announce some pertinent issues affecting the sport and to give details of the programme on the visit of the Nigerian boxers.

Mr Gideon Quartey, chairman of GAABA said the new arrangement was sequel to the change in the arrival date of the Nigerians who will hit town on Tuesday or Wednesday without fail instead of Monday as they had announced earlier. He said GAABA was in constant touch with JAB Team officials and assured boxing fans of an exciting night at the Prisons Canteen on Friday night.

"We want the fans to come in their numbers to see what we have been able to do for amateur boxing so far in the Greater Accra Region." The Nigerian team, the Joint Amateur Boxing (JAB) Team has a national character as it is made up of amateur boxers from different States in Nigeria.

The Nigerian boxers expected for the competition are flyweight Wasiu Amosu, bantamweight Tajudeen Amusa, featherweight Idris Badmus, lightweight Kazeen Saka, light welterweight Abiodum Mustapha and welterweight Ibrahim Kodin. In earlier international contests, Team GAABA lost back to back to the Hurringey Police and Community Boxing Club in two contests staged at the Prisons Canteen at Cantonment in Accraearlier in the year.
