GBA declares national lightweight title vacant

Accra, Nov. 23, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has declared the national lightweight title vacant following the inability of the holder to defend the title within the statutory period.

Raymond Narh, the holder of the title left for the United States of America (USA) early this year after winning the title in the later parts of 2003.

The decision of the Authority was based on the boxer's inability to defend the title within the stipulated period of six months of the regulations of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

The GBA has therefore mandated Ben Ankrah, known in boxing circles as "Congo Soldier" to fight Bilal Mohamed for the vacant title.

Information gathered from the Secretariat reveals that the said fight would be staged under Ambitions Boxing Promotion Syndicate on December 17, at the Kaneshie Sports Complex.

Mr Justus Agbeko, General Secretary of the GBA told the GNA Sports that Narh would be given the opportunity to contest the title on his return from the USA.
