GBA launches 50th Anniversary celebration

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has said it will propose the establishment a Commonwealth Boxing Hall of Fame at the next general meeting of the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) to be hosted by Ghana.

The Hall is to serve as a place for checking the roll call of past boxing heroes who have distinguished themselves in the sport.

Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, Acting Chairman of the GBA said this at a Press Conference on Thursday to launch the 50th anniversary of the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) in Accra.

He said that Commonwealth countries have produced great boxing legends and there is the need for the right platform to be created for them to be honoured.

The acting chairman named boxers like Azumah Nelson, David Kotei a.k.a. D.K Poison and Lennox Lewis among others who have lifted the flag of the Council high and must be honoured for their excellent performances in the sport over the past years.

Mr Foh-Amoaning said the general meeting, which also coincides with the Golden Jubilee of the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) is seen by the GBA as a watershed which will be used to change the entire face of boxing.

The acting Chairman said the anniversary, which is under the theme "Commonwealth boxing; the past, present and the future" is to review the achievements over the past years and also create an appropriate blue print for the future of commonwealth boxing.

He said other proposals like the creation of a credible corporate image for the Council and the establishment of an independent body by the Council to check allegations of cheating after fights organised under the flagship of the Council would receive much attention.
