Ghanaian referee lands in SA to officiate world title fight

Ghanaian boxing official, Roger Barnor is in South Africa where he will be a judge for two world title fights later this evening.

The referee / judge left Accra last night full of enthusiasm ahead of his officiating as one of three judges for the WBA International Minimumweight championship between Siyabonga Siyo of South Africa and Lito Dante of Philippines in East London on Friday.

Referee Barnor will judge the fight along with Wally Snowball of South Africa and Stanley Christodoulou who will also supervise the fight for the WBA. Polish official, Lezek Jankowiak wil be the referee.

Referee Barnor will also officiate the WBA International Bantamweight title bout featuring Mzuvukile Magwaca of South Africa against Jose Gonzales of Mexico. The Ghanaian will be one of three judges along with Lezek Jankowiak of Poland and Wally Snowball of South Africa whilst Stanley Christodoulou will be both referee and supervisor.

"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity, it shows that our work is getting recognised and I hope this opens the way for other boxing referees and judges in Ghana to also get such international appointments," referee Barnor told Allsports.com.gh exclusively yesterday before flying out of the country.

When he arrives from South Africa, Roger Barnor is again billed to travel to London, UK where he will also officiate in a boxing event at York Hall, Bethnal Green on August 29 before another job awaits him in South Africa again next month.
