Korle Gonno set for Juvenile boxing talent hunt

It's the 4th in the series of juvenile boxing talent hunt this weekend and the Goldstar Airlines sponsored event storms Korle Gonno, also in Accra on Sunday evening to an expected huge patronage by both talented young fighters as well as their adoring fans.

Sponsors Goldstar Airlines, the indigenous airline are still pressuring Ghanaian civil aviation authorities to inspect their equipment and give them green light to begin flying their intended UK, US and China routes.

But that has not stopped them from investing in the boxing talent hunt which has earned massive endorsement from the bigwigs of the sport in this country including GBA President, Peter Zwennes and the legendary Azumah Nelson.

Again this Sunday, they are bringing the show alive at Korle Gonno One way to Korle Bu near the Lighthouse Chapel following the successes of James Town Roundabout, Gbese and Chorkor.

And once again, a host of Ghanaian boxing dignitaries as well as European partners of Goldstar Airlines are also expected to show up to observe the young aspiring boxers first hand.

According to Goldstar Airlines CEO, Eric Bannerman the airline's captain, HinishBilson who has arrived in the country ready to begin work will attend the juvenile boxing event at Korle Gonno along with Pat Berger from Germany and Loe Kelly from the UK who both have NGOs wishing to partner the talent hunt project.

"It's been very good so far, we've got a lot of talented young boxers who can all easily become world champions with the kind of training and exposure we intend to give them," Mr. Bannerman told Allsports.com.gh after last Sunday's show at Chorkor.

"I was particularly impressed with a 12 year old boy called Okine Junior, there's no doubt about his talent and I see a potential world champion in him," the Goldstar Airlines boss added.

American boxing promoter, George Johnson who arrived about two weeks ago for a close and personal assessment of the young boxers, will again be at the Korle Gonno leg of the nationwide drive.

Accordingly, Promoter Johnson is so excited with the prospects so far discovered but is up for more surprises.

"We are expecting to identify and recruit more talents, the promoter is already discussing plans to start working with those already selected," Eric Bannerman said.

"Some NGOS from Europe have also come to watch the show first hand, they all want to partner Goldstar Airlines on this project," he added.
