Mayweather sued $2m for not showing up in Ghana

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was expected to be in Ghana last year Floyd Mayweather Jr. was expected to be in Ghana last year

A company based in Nigeria is suing former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather to get their money back.

The company behind the lawsuit is Zinni Media — which claims it booked Mayweather to make 5 appearances in Nigeria and Ghana in June 2017 for the sum of $375,000.

The company says it got Mayweather to make a video confirming the appearances — so, they thought they were good to go. The claim to have wired him $210,000 in advance.

But, days before the first event, they claim that Mayweather bailed — and the company was left holding the bag.

In the lawsuit documents, Zinni is claiming that Floyd’s reps offered to reschedule for Dec. 2017 — and added more appearances to the list — but, he also raised the price to $550,000. Zinni claims they were told they could use the $210,000 they advanced toward the new booking price.

Zinni says they accepted the new deal — but, when they asked Mayweather to make a new video confirming the new dates, he allegedly never came through … and never returned the original $210,000.

Now, Zinni is taking legal action in federal court in California — claiming Mayweather damaged their reputation and allegedly defrauded them. Zinni wants at least $2 million to make things right.

Mayweather is certainly not hurting for money, as he recently made headlines for purchasing a watch for $18 million.

Mayweather retired from the sport in August 2017, after snapping a two year retirement to secure a tenth round stoppage win over UFC superstar Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Several months later, Mayweather generated an enormous amount of attention – after hinting that he might enter the world of mixed martial arts. After stating several times that he would only return to the ring in an MMA debut – he backed away from that scenario in a recent interview and said there were no plans to fight again.
