Former IBF World welterweight champion, Joshua Clottey, says Mikey Garcia will be a tough customer for Richard Commey.

“He is too much. The guy over there is a four-division world champion – Featherweight, Super Featherweight, Lightweight and Light Welterweight. He beat Andrew Browner and the guy that prevented Commey from winning the world title.

“When he was going to fight with Easter, I thought it was going to be very tough for him because he is too short and Easter is very tall but he handled Easter very easily, knocking him down in the third round.

“He is rated the 4th best pound for pound boxer in the world and trust me, this guy is a prized fighter here in America. He is untouchable, this would be a tough fight for Commey,” Clottey told Class Sports.

Commey stands a chance of landing a world title after agreeing a deal to fight International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council Champion Mikey Garcia.

Garcia opted to fight Commey, and on Tuesday, 2 October 2018, the IBF notified its registered promoters via email that the purse bid was cancelled because the Garcia and Commey teams made a deal in what came as a mild surprise.

Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) has won world titles in four divisions – Featherweight, Junior lightweight, Lightweight and Junior welterweight.

Commey (27-2, 24 KOs), will be getting his second shot at a world title following the defeat to Robert Easter Jr.

The fight is set to come off possibly in December or early next year.
