ACCRA, December 02 -- Osumanu Adama became the new national super-welterweight boxing champion when he stopped veteran, Machiano Commey in the second round of their title fight at the Kaneshie Sports Complex on Saturday morning.
Adama who turned professional just last year now has a fight record of three wins in as many fights.
In the first round, Adama opened up and chased Commey round the ring, jabbing effectively with his left and shuffling it with some right shots to the head of his opponent.
Commey kept his guard high and retreated while countering intermittently to ward off the aggression of his youthful adversary.
The second round began with Commey showing more commitment as he traded punches with his opponent and appeared to be warming himself into the fight.
The pattern soon changed as Adama pushed forward once more and when he thundered home a straight right and a left, right combination, Commey's knees buckled and the new champion followed up with a barrage of swift combinations to the face.
Commey was felled by the impact but he managed to raise himself to a crouching position, with his left knee and right hand on the mat only to stare at referee Samuel Tetteh as he counted him out without any serious effort to be on his feet.
In another fight which received a lot of media hype, Brimah Kamoko, the 'Bukom Banku' halted the challenge of his Paris based Togolese opponent in the second of a 12 round super middleweight challenge contest.
It was indeed a night of knockouts as James 'Hot Ice' Tony, the African middleweight champion also stopped his Nigerian foe, Tony Osigwe via a third round TKO when the corner of the Nigerian threw in the towel to save him from further punishment.
The fourth knockout of the night was recorded by Joshua Clottey who technically kayoed Siki Benge of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the second round of their 10 round welterweight duel.
There was yet another knockout in the featherweight division when Osumanu Akaba stopped Lokossou Theodore from the Republic of Benin in the second round of a scheduled eight rounder.
In the other fights of the 'Akutruku Night 3' packaged by Despite Sports Promotions, Galley Kudjo gained a unanimous points decision over Alfred Quaye over six rounds in a flyweight contest while Emmanuel Clottey out-pointed Isaac Quartey in a ten round super lightweight fight.
