Boxing referee Frederick Ghartey has died in Accra after a short illness, family sources have told Power sports.
Referee Ghartey was shot to the lime light after he officiated the popular bout between Bastie Samir and Braimah Kamoko also known as Bukom Banku at the Boxing Arena where Kamoko was defeated.
He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Monday, May 28, 2018.
Referee Ghartey, 59, was also a deputy Commissioner at the Customs Excise and preventive Service (CEPS).
Before his sudden demise, Mr Ghartey was the Promotions Committee Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
His demise is one of the heavy blows to the boxing fraternity after Coach Allowey and Coach Emmanuel Tagoe also known as Akessie died in 2015.
Some of the big shots in the Boxing industry who have also died in the last two years are match maker Akko Paterson (2016) and Boxing Manager Jonathan Nii Tarkie Commey who passed on in 2017.
