Lightweight contender Richard Commey has called on organizers to put together a professional boxers awards.

The James Town native is unhappy that professionals boxers are not recognized.

According to the former Commonwealth lightweight champion, football gets the needed recognition but they have done nothing but rather brought shame to the nation.

With Ghana currently having a world champion which is Isaac Dogboe, the 31-year-old hard puncher want those in the sports fraternity to respect their profession.

He took to Facebook and wrote, “Why can’t we also have Professional Boxers Awards in Ghana,…After all we have a world champion in Dogboe, Raphael Mesnsah is fighting for a world title in two weeks a d I will definitely be a world champion before the year ends…..what name has football not given to our beloved country recently if not corruption and selfishness….Put some respect on our profession as Boxer.”

Commey, who is IBF’s number one contender will return to the ring on July 28th against yet to be announced opponent.
