Ghana’s lightweight boxer Richard Commey is the new WBC international lightweight champion after defeating Hedi Slimani on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Richard Commey increased his winning tally to 25 after the three Judges scored 116-112, 117-113, 116-112 in his favor.
Boxing fanatics were thrilled with mouthwatering scintillating boxing as the two boxers showcased their class. Slimani was swift with his punches but which was not heavy to wither Commey who retaliated back with much more power.
Round six got heated with influx of punches from Commey, however Hedi responded back in style as he stormed Richard unexpectedly nearly causing a knock. Commey’s flow resulted in a deep cut on the face of Belgian with blood spurting out but Hedi still persisted on to the end.
The final rounds produced more excitement when Commey continued to deepen the wound on the fore head of Silmani. The Belgian also managed to wound Richard as well.
Richard Commey is now looking forward to another World title opportunity after he lost the vacant IBF World lightweight title to Robert Easter Jnr. in September 2016.
His Excellency the President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo, ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and other dignitaries attended the historical showdown that saw Duke Micah and Frederick Lawson win titles as well.
