Tagoe fights Robles tonight

Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe has promised nothing but the title at stake in his IBF Intercontinental Junior Lightweight contest against American Gerardo Robles at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, Cabazon, California, USA today.

A win for the International Junior Lightweight champion will inch him closer to his world title dream fight against Argenis Mendez later this year.

And indications are that the world title dream is the motivating factor in tonight’s showdown.

Speaking ahead of the fight from the Joe Goosen Gym, LA in California, after a steamy workout, he noted, “Expect a win from me on Friday. I am not returning home empty-handed. I have done a great deal of investment in my body to deserve a win.

“I arrived here weeks ahead of the fight for acclimatization purposes and I must say it is worth the decision. The facilities here are something else and I have learnt so many strategies since I arrived,” Tagoe said.

Noted for his pranks against opponents, he stated amid laughter, “It will depend on how the fight will go. I resort to those antics when I realize I am way ahead on points and can determine how the fight will end. But I have realized the Americans love the antics so I will reserve it for the last round; that is if the fight will travel that distance.

“I have prepared well to make my fans happy. I am going out there to fight and fight well. All I need from my fans are prayers,” he added.

Baffour Gyan, senior brother of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, president of the boxing syndicate Baby Jet Promotions, has been with the boxer in the States from the get-go, monitoring his training.
