On August 29, 1987, Ghana boxing legend Azumah Nelson retained his WBC world featherweight title with a convincing, 12-round unanimous decision over Mexico’s Marcos Villasana.

The victory was a rematch of their first encounter 15 months before, a war that Nelson won via majority decision.

The International Hall of Fame Inductee then went on to defend the belt on five occasions.

In 1990, Nelson moved up in weight to challenge Pernell Whitaker for the America’s IBF and WBC World lightweight belt, but the Ghanaian lost via a unanimous decision.
