The Ghana Smart Cities project, designed to provide an affordable nationwide Wi-Fi network, will create over 10,000 jobs for Ghanaians, Founder and Executive Chairman of Celltel Networks, Dr Prince Kofi Kludjeson, has said.

According to him, the US$500 million project, which seeks to improve the Ghanaian economy will provide jobs through partners in various districts nationwide.

“We are looking at 10,000 of the initial offering through the franchise in the various districts. What we are also looking at is to build the revenue base of Ghana.” He disclosed in an interview.

Dr Prince Kofi Kludjeson said the project has garnered interests from many international technology companies that are ready to pump huge investments into the project for further expansion and more jobs.

“The innovation has attracted a lot of major companies in technology manufacturing in the world. It became more important when Ghana earned the right to headquarter AfCTA.”

Meanwhile, the company earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with local finance company, Ed & Co Capital Limited as financial advisors.

Ed & Co would arrange and manage the relationship between various institutions or individuals and the banks that would underwrite the subscriptions on clients’ behalf.

Ghana Smart Cities project is in collaboration with the local government institutions and other strategic and relevant government agencies.

The project is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of next year.

He assured that the devices that will be produced locally will be affordable.
