A disposable plastic manufacturing company is expected to be soon established at Yabi, a community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
The company when completed, will produce corn starch to produce disposable products such as; cups, bowls, food containers, LID, plates among others.
The rationale behind the company’s establishment in the Ashanti region is to help reduce the use of undissolved petroleum plastic products.
The Chief of Yabi, Kontomere Kwame Frimpong Ababio II, who is behind the company’s vision, said “plans and negotiations are far advance for the project to take off.
He said the Yabi community is poised to release an estimated amount of not less than US$14,000 to purchase a manufacturing machine (corn starch thermoforming machine) from a Chinese company LITAI Machinery in order to start work probably, in December this year.
LITAI Machinery has indicated that, corn is being used as a raw material. The machine transforms it into starch, then finally invent the disposable plastic products.
Significantly, the production according to the developers, will need a lot more of raw materials (maize) in order to produce more of the products.
The Yabi chief said “this will create a huge job for many our youths to engage in maize farming since a lot of maize would be needed to run the company”.
He reiterated that the industry will add up to President Nana Akufo Addo’s 1D1F initiative. He called on the Ministry of Trade And Industry headed by Alan Kyerematen to assist Yabi community in order to effectively implement the project.
He said, Yabi is ever ready to welcome investors, business men and all stakeholders for its development
