The Ministry for Planning in collaboration with Imagine8 Company Limited and Healthy Living Foundation has launched the 2019 Nutritious Ghana Conference to alleviate poverty and promote healthy living among Ghanaians.

The conference will feature a gathering of nutrition experts, food processors, agriculturists as well as policymakers in the food value chain to deliberate on innovative ways of curbing malnutrition and other nutrition-related diseases towards the attainment of sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2 and 3.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Planning Prof. Gyan Baffour, Technical Advisor at the Ministry for Planning, Kojo Mensah-Abrampah proclaimed that the Nutritious Ghana Conference is a step in the right direction towards attaining SDGs 2 and 3.

“I believe this intervention will propel the country once again to become the first in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve SDG 2 and 3 respectively. And this I pledge the Ministry of Planning to support this initiative in order to benefit more Ghanaians and our beloved country,” Mr Mensah-Abrampah stated.

In an interaction with the media, the chairperson of the event launch, Gertrude Quashigah admonished Ghanaians for choosing foreign products over local ones, an act she argued enhanced the employment opportunities for foreigners.

Deputy Director of Women in Agriculture, Theresa Wayo admonished Ghanaian parents against feeding their children carbonated foods since they are full of chemicals instead of nutrients, needed to support the growth of the children.

Themed ‘Integrated Approach to Promoting a Nutritious Ghana’, the three-day event will take place from Wednesday, March 27 to Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

It is aimed at complementing the efforts of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and other interventions focused on eliminating malnutrition among children in Ghana.
