Imani’s Vice President, Kofi Bentil, has said it is a “great idea”, a decision by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to approve the issuance of 24-carat gold coins to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In a tweet, Mr Bentil who is also a private legal practitioner and lecturer, said: “Great idea . Please make them ALL in Ghana from Ghanaian Gold refined in Ghana and minutes here!!!”

The coin will be outdoored on the Asantehene’s 70th birthday on May 6, 2020. It will weigh at least 31.104g and have a diameter of 37mm.

The commemorative coin will be exclusively auctioned to the public and earnings will be channeled into the establishment of the Cultural Resource Centre.

The resource centre will also promote traditional and customary conflict resolution in the country.

Enstooled on 26 April, 2019, Barima Kwaku Duah, Osei II is the 17th Asantehene of the Asante Kingdom.

The Asantehene is the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the Sword Bearer of the United Grand Lodge of England.

His 20th-anniversary commemoration was held on April 21, 2019, at the Dwabirem of the Manhyia Palace.
