IMANI Africa Vice President, Bright Simons has spoken about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagship 24-hour economy policy.
According to him, the policy as floated by flagbearer of the NDC, former President John Dramani Mahama, is hard to probe, just like similar 'policies' advanced by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He said that the 24 hour economy policy "sounds more like an aspirational "policy VISION" than a specific policy itself.
"Like Kuffour-era "Golden Age of Business" or "War on Indiscipline". Hard to probe those. So, we are waiting for the linked policies."
His X post dated June 18, 2024; also disclosed that Civil Society Organizations are focused on bigger issues and will largely ignore the many campaign promises being made by the major candidates in the upcoming polls.
"Some friends have asked me why CSO folks are not probing NDC's "24-hour economy claims" like we did NPP's Free SHS.
"For me, 2 simple reasons:
"A. This election year, CSOs have bigger issues on their hand than manifesto promises. So, BOTH parties' promises are being ignored.
"B. More critical, at least for me, is that "24 hour economy" sounds more like an aspirational "policy VISION" than a specific policy itself. Like Kuffour-era "Golden Age of Business" or "War on Indiscipline". Hard to probe those. So, we are waiting for the linked policies," his post read.
The NDC have advanced the 24-hour economy policy as a major plank of its campaign stressing how the policy will be used to turn around the flailing economy with the provision of more jobs buoyed by increased power production and adequate security for a three-shift 24/7 production system for especially industries.
