2nd phase of Sunon Asogli Project to commence in September

All is now set for work to commence on the second phase of the Sunon Asogli Power project in September.

This is expected to add 360 Mega-Watts to the country’s energy mix. It would also add to the 200 Mega Watts currently produced by the Sunnon Asogli Plant. The sod cutting ceremony for the second phase of the project is expected in August whilst commercial production is expected to begin in early 2016.

The Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited, Kweku Li told Joy Business, they are now ready to get the plant operate to its full capacity of 550 Mega Watts. “360 Mega Watts is our phase two of developing the Asogli Site. That would also be using gas.”.

Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited is also stepping up efforts to build a 700 Mega Watt coal plant in the country within the next 5 years.

Government in February signed the agreement with the Sunon Asogli Power Plant and the Shezhen Energy Group to produce 1,560 megawatts of power. This would be the country’s first coal-fired power plant with the coal supply expected from South Africa.
