Kumasi, Sept 12, GNA- The government has released 4.1 billion cedis for the Buokrom and Pankrono project.

Work had started on the construction of a 50,000-gallon capacity underground tank, the installation of an overhead tank with capacity for 100,000 gallons of water and a booster pump at Buokrom. At Pankrono, an underground reinforced concrete reservoir also with a capacity for 50,000 gallons of water and a booster pump are being installed.

Mr Samuel G.O. Lamptey, acting Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), said this during an inspection of the projects last Thursday.

The project would be completed within three months. He asked the contractors, PROFCON Limited and Summer Oak Limited, to ensure that they worked within the time frame.

The acting Managing Director praised the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor and the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, for the role they played in getting the projects started.

He spoke of plans to increase the present 18 million gallons of water supply daily by the Barekese Dam to 24 million gallons. The company, he said, was looking for funding to make the project a reality.
