Actuarial professionals to gain vital skills for thriving in the insurance sector

To unlock the immense potential of the insurance industry, stakeholders have praised the establishment of a school of excellence aimed at training and equipping actuaries with the necessary skills for the insurance sector.

Daniel Kwadwo Owusu, the Country Managing Partner of Deloitte Ghana, pointed out that the insurance industry in the country is evolving and remains poised to achieve double-digit growth in both the life and general sectors in the medium term.

Despite its low penetration, he emphasised that there is significant potential that requires the support of stakeholders to stress the importance of insurance to every working Ghanaian.

Speaking at the launch of the Deloitte School of Actuarial Excellence on October 9, 2024, Owusu mentioned that "the school has been established at the perfect time to enhance the skills of actuarial resources, ensuring that they are up to date with the latest regulatory developments and actuarial techniques."

He further stated, "Our actuarial consulting team is the largest on the African continent, comprising over 200 actuarial professionals with highly developed technical skills and business acumen."

Courses in the program are expected to last for three months, with a three-month attachment period, after which participants will be equipped with enhanced actuarial skills.

Meanwhile, the National Insurance Commission commended Deloitte for the initiative and pledged to take necessary steps to make insurance more appealing to Ghanaians.

The Deloitte School of Actuarial Excellence aims to provide practical training for actuarial employees while enhancing efforts in the insurance industry.
