Aflao Diamond Cement assists Denu Community

Denu, Sept. 20, GNA - The Aflao-based Diamond Cement Ghana Limited (DCGL), has taken over the financing of the construction of an abandoned ten-room classroom block at the cost 400 million cedis, for Denu Roman Catholic Primary School at Denu.

This followed an appeal from the community through the Ketu District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, this year. The company has already donated about 400 of the 2000 bags estimated for the project, in addition to all other materials required as well as the cost of labour.

The one-storey building, was a community initiative to replace the dilapidated structures at the school, but got abandoned since 1999 for lack of funds and support.

Mr. Chitti Babu, the General Manager of DCGL, presenting another component of the materials at the site at the weekend, said his company was moved by the plight of the school and the entire community and wished to assist them in fulfillment of its social assistance and the DCGL-community relation enhancement plan.

Mr. Babu said though the company has began production at Aflao just two years ago after heavy investment, it is making every effort to deepen its cooperate image in the country.

He commended the community for their enthusiasm in providing some free labour, saying, "your attitude, particularly about the interest in getting the facility in place for your children's education has in fact, urged us on."

Mr. Francis Bedzo, the Assemblyman for Denu area, who is supervising the work, thanked the company for the assistance and pledged that the work will be diligently executed and the materials would also be used judiciously.

Meanwhile DCGL has, in collaboration with the Ketu District Assembly, extended water from the company's water system to five communities around the company for free.
