It is undeniable that China's influence across Africa remains significant, with Chinese-built or funded projects such as roads, bridges, dams, parliamentary buildings, and more, spanning decades and scattered across the continent.

Over the years, China's influence has sparked interest among Africans in Asian culture, fueled by the global popularity of K-Pop; Chinese dramas, films, lifestyles, and the general Chinese culture.

With China's influence in African countries dominant, this has led some central banks to feature some Chinese projects on their currency notes and coins.

This development serves as a reminder of how deeply intertwined these economies have become, while raising some questions about how these relationships will shape Africa’s future and sovereignty.

According to CNN's Larry Madowo, at least 10 African currency notes or coins feature Chinese projects, based on information from Beijing's foreign ministry.

Madowo, in a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on September 4, 2024, displayed several currency notes to support his argument.

For example, Malawi's 2000 Kwacha note pays tribute to the country's University of Science and Technology, built and funded by China.

Additionally, the DR Congo's Kinsuka Bridge, featured on the 500 francs note, was also constructed by the Chinese.

The Great Mosque of Algeria, depicted on the Northern African nation's 1000 dinars note, was another Chinese-built project.

Currency notes from other African countries such as Morocco, Egypt, Guinea, Sudan, and others also showcase China's influence.
