Agona District to get two factories

Agona Swedru (C/R), Nov 1, GNA - Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, has stated that the establishment of two factories at Agona Swedru, libraries at Swedru and Nyakrom and a Teachers Resource Centre at Swedru would be his priority when he gets the mandate for a second term in the December, 2004 elections. He announced this when he addressed members of the "Awerekyekye Kuow" at Babianiha, in Swedru, on Sunday.

The MP said he had already initiated moves to attract investors to establish the factories to create jobs for the youth and school leavers to enable them to live decent lives.

The design for the construction of the libraries and the Teachers Resource Centre had been completed for the project to begin next year to arrest the falling standard of education in the district. Mr Obodai said the Teachers Resource Centre and the libraries would be financed from his share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund and by some non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

He said another traffic light would be installed at the Gomoa Aboso and the Police Station Junction, near the Swedru Chapel Square before December this year to ease traffic congestion at Agona Swedru. Mr Obodai enumerated projects that had been executed in the area during his tenure as MP and asked the electorate to vote for him and President john Agyekum Kufuor in the Election 2004. He said that a fence wall had been constructed around the Swedru Government Hospital while he distributed exercise books worth 25 million cedis to schools in the town and other projects.

Mr Obodai asked the electorate to assess his performance within the past four years and to return him to continue the good work he had been doing to raise the living standard of the citizens. Ms Natima Sulley, Chief Patron of the Awerekyekye Kuow, appealed to the MP to help to rehabilitate the Babianiha streets, which had been in a bad shape for a long time to facilitate the transportation of goods and services.

She told the MP that their support would enable him to win a second term to continue the good work that he had been doing. Ms Sulley appealed to the MP to help find solutions to the many problems facing the people to improve living conditions in the area.
