The Acting Director of the Revenue Policy Division, Ministry of Finance, Daniel Nuer, has said the government's Agriculture Transformation Agenda will help reduce food inflation in Ghana.

According to him, this initiative will target the various parts of the food chain, including aquaculture and affect inflation positively.

Speaking during the LIMA Partners Post Budget Forum, he said: "I believe it is going to include aquaculture as well. It is going to help in terms of reducing our inflation by targeting certain items that we need or we generally buy and therefore, prices and the cost of producing or importing them becomes expensive. I think this can be a good one for the Ghanaian economy in terms of helping to support agric and especially food production."

During the presentation of the 2025 Budget, the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, said food inflation will be reduced through the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) anchored in the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

He added that "We have allocated an amount of GH¢1.5 billion for Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) of which Feed Ghana Programme, Ghana Grains Development Project, Vegetable Development Project and Nkokor Nketenkete are all key components."

On taxes, Nuer said the government's vision to create the Women's Development Bank aligns with the move to increase revenue.

"The other one too is the allocation to establish the women's bank. Again, we can use this avenue to encourage small medium and micro firms to comply with tax payments. We are always talking about formalising the informal sector so they can pay taxes. We keep saying this but no efforts. Now, we have a number of these microfinance institutions and agencies of government such as the GEA, the MASLOC, now the women's bank. Why don't we use this to encourage micro and small businesses to comply with the reporting and record keeping of their firms?" he said.
