Airlines resume flights to Ouagadougou

Regional airlines operating flights from Accra to neighbouring Burkina Faso, have resumed commercial operations following the re-opening of Ouagadougou's airport.

Burkinabe and Ghanaian authorities took a decision to close their respective borders on November 1, following civil unrest in Ouagadougou that forced the country’s long-serving president Blaise Compaore to resign.

The Ouagadougou Airport was also closed to traffic for days, forcing airlines to cancel flights.

However, three main regional carriers operating flights from Accra to the troubled West African country, Air Burkina, Asky Airlines and Air Cote d’Ivoire, have all resumed scheduled flights to Ouagadougou.

Mr. Worlanyo Afadzinu, Country Manager of Asky Airlines told the B&FT that: “The airport was closed for some three days. It affected our operations as we had to cancel our flights. But the airport was reopened last week and we are now operating all our flight.”
