Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has demanded that President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta apologise to Ghanaians for the ongoing economic crisis.

During his tour of the Volta Region on August 14, 2024, Mahama who doubles as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) responded to recent remarks by the newly appointed Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who had issued an apology for the hardships caused by the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).

Mahama argued that Ghanaians are not looking for an apology from Dr. Amin Adam, who only recently assumed office and should not be held accountable for the country's current economic woes.

"They’ve got him apologising, but it’s not his apology we want. He just took office. The people who owe Ghanaians an apology are, first, President Nana Akufo-Addo, the head of the Economic Management Team, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and their former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said.

Mahama also took a swipe at the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), dismissing their upcoming manifesto as full of "lies and empty promises."

He accused the NPP of repeatedly misleading the public with promises that are never fulfilled.

"They will unveil their manifesto on the 18th, and once again, it will be full of falsehoods aimed at deceiving Ghanaians," he added.
