Government has intensified efforts towards the discovery of oil and gas in the Volta basin. All the necessary preparatory work have been done to commence work on the onshore project.

President Akufo-Addo stated this after he turned the valves on the FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor for formal production at the Sankofa Gye Nyame oil and Gas field.

The field is starting production three months ahead of the scheduled date.

President Akufo-Addo commended his predecessors, Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Mahama for their roles in discovering oil in commercial quantities.

The President noted that Ghana is on the path of becoming a Petroleum hub and the establishment of a petro-chemical industry.

The Western Region he said, will not be left out as government puts in place measures to make the region an oil service hub with a first class port.

President Akufo-Addo said he will prioritise the effective management of proceeds from the oil and gas sector.

This he said will provide revenue to promote employment, improve the environment and strengthen trade and industrial development.
