Akwasi Achampong Appointed As Board Chairman of Ghana Standard Authority

Pursuant to Section 4 (1) (a) and 4 (2) of the standards Authority Act, 1973 (N.R.C.D. 173), the president of the republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Dr. Akwasi Achampong as the Board Chairman of Ghana Standard Authority (GSA).

Established by the Standards Decree, 1967 (NLCD 199) which has been superseded by the Standards Decree, 1973 (NRCD 173) and the custodian of the Weights and Measures Decree (NRCD 326, 1975), the Ghana Standard Authority came to force to undertake some constitutional obligations to ensure that the Ghanaian market offers wholesome consumables for the Ghanaian populace. Among its undertakings are; national standards development and Information dissemination, testing services, inspection activities, product certification, calibration, verification and Inspection of weights, pattern approval, destination inspection of imported high-risk goods, promoting the quality of goods, advice the Ministry of Trade & Industry on standards and related issues etc.

It was, therefore, important to entrust the oversight and advisory responsibility of such a critical government agency into the hands of someone with the needed experience and competence to perform such a critical advisory role. Dr. Achampong is expected to bring onboard his expertise as a physician expert to help steer the affairs of the GSA and make it more efficient and productive.

Dr. Achampong is the chairman of the NPP-New York Chapter, Member of the Council of Elders of NPPUSA, and the Global Coordinator of the Coalition to Elect Nana Addo & Bawumia (CENAB).
