AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine has presented a cheque for GH¢ 74,765.00 to the Obuasi branch of the Ghana Mineworker Union Wives Association to promote their cottage industry.
Currently the Association is engaged in beads making, variety of soap production and event decoration among others and the money is to be used to expand the business.
Mr. Fred Attakumah, the Managing Director of Obuasi Mine who presented the cheque on behalf of the company, acknowledged the work of the Association was doing in the municipality, which was also a means of sustenance for their families.
Mr. Attakumah however cautioned the women to account for their stewardship in order to grow the business and also advised them to be innovative with their products to get larger clientele.
He reminded the women that the money was a grant to be used to grow their business and added "we want to see this money turn-around and a positive story to be told’’.
Mr. Nicholas Yeboah, the Secretary of the Obuasi branch of the Ghana Mine Workers Union (GMWU), commended management for supporting the women at this critical period.
He urged other women, who were yet to join the Association, to do so.
Mrs. Doris Appiah-Kubi, Secretary of the Association observed that the support they were enjoying from the GMWU and AGA were encouraging.
She however appealed to the management of AGA to assist them construct a production site and a vehicle to be used for their supplies.
