Barclays to support domestic tourism

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - Toyota Ghana Limited on Monday gave out four new Toyota Land cruiser vehicles to support the "Miles Ahead," countryside tour promotion initiated by Barclays Bank Ghana Limited to project domestic tourism with four new land cruiser vehicles. The "Miles Ahead" countryside tour is an expository visit to strategic tourist sites, historical monuments and national edifices with stakeholders, local and foreign investors and media practitioners to promote domestic tourism as well as to raise one billion cedis to support community activities.

Mr Gayhart Mensah, Communications Manager of the Bank, told newsmen in Accra that the event would also be used to build a strong marketing and promotion network among corporate organisations globally in order to achieve high value for traditional areas, investors and stakeholders. He explained that a documentary on the sites would be prepared after the 16-day tour, which would be used to market and advertise the tourism potential of the country.

He said the interest generated would also be used to open up sites and promote domestic tourism.

Mr Mensah said proceeds from the promotion would be used to support three non-governmental organisations - Water Vision International, Water Aid and Habitat for Humanities - to run community support activities. Other participation companies include Mobil Ghana Limited, Type Company and Enterprise Assurance, with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City and the Ghana Tourist Board.

Mr Mensah stressed that domestic tourism had great potential to accelerate national development. 26 Sept. 05
