Base pay on Single Spine Salary Structure increased by 11 percent

The basic salaries on the Single Spine Salary Structure have been increased by 11 percent across board, Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee has announced.

The new pay structure will take effect on January 1, 2018, at the current pay point relativity of 1.7%, the Committee said in a Press statement Tuesday.

At the meeting of the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) held in Accra Tuesday, representatives of public sector workers, led by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr Yaw Baah, also concluded that there shall be effective implementation of Categories 2 & 3 allowances as approved by the Ministry of Finance.

Public sector workers were agitating for a new structure to bridge the gap between the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) and the base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

The base pay is the lowest level salary paid to public sector workers on the SSSS and the 2016 base pay was GH¢7.45.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) concluded negotiations for the 2018 NDMW and announced a 10 per cent increase to make it GH¢9.68.
