Governor of Ghana’s financial space regulator, Dr. Ernest Addison has commended the leading Telecommunication Company in the country, MTN, for their commitment to meeting all tax obligations.
The Central Bank Boss who described MTN as a responsible corporate entity noted that "MTN, the leading taxpayer and employer has contributed immensely to the Ghanaian economy as well as individuals enrolled on MTN ventures".
"As a responsible corporate entity, MTN Ghana has made significant contribution to the country’s economy as a leading taxpayer and employer. MTN has helped to improve the livelihood of people through education and health projects throughout the country." Dr. Addison said
In 2016, MTN Ghana paid a total of GH¢1.1 billion to the government and other regulatory agencies. The company paid GH¢718 million in taxes to the Ghana Revenues Authority (GRA) and GH¢51.8 million to NCA and GIFEC as dues and an additional GH¢258 for the 4G LTE. GH¢85 million was also incurred for SIIT.
Meanwhile, Dr. Addison also urged MTN to partner government to improve digital services in the country.
"The National Information Technology Agency is one of the government agencies to which MTN can extend its infrastructure, to enable more communities have access to internet services", Dr. Addison noted, adding that MTN is adequately resourced to undertake these projects.
“There are some identified areas that MTN can partner the government on. An example is the National Information Technology Agency which is one of the key agencies MTN can expand so that many more communities can have access to date” Dr. Addison remarked
